University Study in Australia

We have new affiliations with two top Australian universities: the University of Sydney and Queensland University of Technology. These partnerships were initiated due to their diverse academic offerings, strong on-site support, and welcoming student populations. While University of Minnesota students previously had the option to study at these schools via affiliated provider options, formal affiliations with these universities will make the study abroad experience less expensive for UofM students and allow for expanded curricular collaboration with departments here at the UofM. These new options complement our current partnerships in Australia with the University of Melbourne and James Cook University.
The University of Sydney, located in the heart of Australia’s largest city, is the nation’s oldest and most prestigious university. While coursework and internships are available across a wide range of majors, USyd’s strengths lie in its health and life science, humanities, and engineering programs. Students have the opportunity to live, study, and play alongside students from around the world in an international campus setting, experiencing the unique benefits of Australian university life.
Located in Brisbane, Queensland University of Technology (QUT) offers courses in a wide range of majors—from the arts and humanities to technology and engineering—known for their unique project-based approach to teaching and learning. Innovation and creativity are prized at QUT, where students can enjoy big-city life without big-city prices in Australia’s second-ranked city for student life.
Applications to study at either school for Fall 2015 are due April 1. To learn more about these two universities, and explore possible curricular matches with your department, contact Eric Leinen.

Are you wondering....
Q: How is this different than the Health Careers Fair which takes place every fall?
A: The Health Interprofessional School Fair is different in a few ways.
1. It is being co-hosted by an undergraduate student organization, Interprofessional Pre-Health Students.
2. It will also include a number of other medical schools, pharmacy schools, and other health professional programs from outside the state.
3. It will have a narrower focus, with not as many different health career options to explore. This event is maybe better suited for students who know that pharmacy (etc.) is the field they are heading towards, and will be able to connect with admissions representatives from other pharmacy (etc.) schools, however it will be open to all!
Q. Will the Health Careers Fair happen this year?
A: Yes, the Health Careers Fair will return in the fall on October 14, 2015.
Q: Will the Health Interprofessional School Fair come back next year?

A: Not exactly, but another (similar) exciting event will happen instead! In 2016, the national meeting of the National Association of Advisors for Health Professions (NAAHP) is coming to Minneapolis from June 15-19, 2016. Woohoo! During that conference, there is typically a Meet the Deans program on the Saturday afternoon - looking ahead to 6-18-16 - for students to meet with visiting school representatives. More information on this event will be available as the meeting approaches.
